Inspection and Testing - Verifying Safety and Performance During Mechanical Silo Construction
Week 7 recap of our silo project: detailed inspections and testing confirmed structural integrity as mechanical lifting continued on Silo 3.
Project Progress – From Construction to Verification
By Week 7, the project had moved firmly into a verification phase. With Silos 1 and 2 fully constructed and Silo 3 continuing its mechanical ascent, attention turned to inspection, testing, and formal sign-off of completed works.
During this stage, our team ensure that all elements meet engineering, safety, and quality requirements before final access systems are installed.
Ongoing Mechanical Lifting on Silo 3
While inspection activities progressed on the completed silos, Silo 3 continued to grow. Silo sheets were attached incrementally, with the electrical jacks lifting the structure multiple times each day.
This parallel workflow demonstrated the efficiency of the construction sequence — allowing lifting, inspection, and preparation works to run simultaneously without disruption.
Detailed Engineering Inspections
Before installing walkways and final access components, engineers carry out comprehensive inspections across completed silos. These checks include:
-
Verification of structural alignment and verticality
-
Inspection of all sheet joints and connections
-
Confirmation of bolt torque and fixings
-
Review of ladders, platforms, and external components
Each element is assessed against design specifications, with findings recorded and formally signed off.
Safety Sign-Off Before Final Access Installation
Only once all inspections are completed and approved are silos cleared for the installation of walkways and catwalks. This ensures that personnel working at height during the final stages do so on fully verified, structurally sound systems.
This step reinforces our commitment to safety, quality, and engineering discipline.
Week 7 Summary
Week 7 marked the transition from construction into final verification. The inspections confirmed that the mechanical lifting process had delivered consistent accuracy and that the completed silos were ready for the final access installations.
Coming Up in Week 8
The next stage focuses on assembling and installing a catwalk linking all three silos. This is once again a complex operation requiring careful planning and precise lifting at height.
